AI visibility

Definition

AI visibility is the share of AI answers to relevant, unbranded questions that name your brand, measured per engine, market and week.

How it is calculated

visibility = answers that name the brand ÷ all answers received. Prompts that contain your own brand name are left out, because they always name you.

Every value needs its sample size (n) and a range. Real example (Neobanks in the UK, 31 Oct – 2 Nov 2026): Revolut was named in 96 of 324 answers, a visibility of 30%; the 95% range is 25–35%.

AI visibility vs. rankings

A search engine shows ten links; an AI answer names a handful of brands, often as a recommendation. AI visibility asks whether you are among them at all. Position (who is named first) and share of voice come next.

What drives it

AI engines write answers from pages they read: comparisons, reviews, directories, your own site. A brand missing from those sources is usually missing from the answers.

How to measure it

Pick 30 or more questions buyers ask, ask them in each engine every day, and report weekly values with n and a 95% interval. Step by step: how to measure AI visibility. A first read in 45 seconds: the free AI visibility check.
